Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU) is the umbrella organization for Palliative Care providers in Uganda with both organizational and individual members. PCAU was established in 1999 with a vision of access to palliative care for all in need in Uganda. PCAU is composed of 20 organizational and over 1000 individual Members. Over the last 20 years, PCAU has been working in partnership with the Ministry of Health, other government institutions, civil society actors and individuals to register numerous millstones on the palliative care scene including scaling up palliative care provision in the country and advocacy that enabled Uganda to be the first country to allow specially trained palliative care nurses and clinical officers to prescribe morphine. This year, PCAU is celebrating 20 years of achievements. PCAU which started as a loose formation with one volunteer, sheltered in another organization has grown to own office premises and to have membership presence in nearly every district of Uganda.
